Swedish Meatballs
The best Swedish Meatballs are here guys. They have been on my to-do list for quite some time now, and I’m so glad I finally did them. After having made who knows how many meatballs in my life, these are the best. And while I often love to just eat these meatballs on their own, the flavors here pair perfectly with the Swedish sauce.
To be honest, it is actually the creamy sauce that really makes the dish stand out.
Alright, let’s talk about the ingredients you will need to make this easy meatball recipe.
I usually use half beef and half pork as this mixture gives them a wonderful beefy flavor. You
can also make all-beef or all-pork meatballs if you prefer.
A bit strange but we also need milk: We will soak the bread (1 slice of bread) in it which will help to keep our meatballs nice and moist. We will also add some to the sauce.
Fresh garlic of course! I am a HUGE fan of the garlic.
1 egg, feta cheese, grated or finely chopped yellow onion
Some fresh herbs. For this recipe, I used a mixture of fresh parsley, a tiny pinch of nutmeg, and dried savory leaves.
Let’s not forget the salt and the black pepper
For the sauce, you will need 4 tablespoons of butter, 1/4 cup flour, 2 cups beef broth, ¾ cup milk, and 8 ounces sour cream.
These Swedish meatballs can be served with mashed or boiled potatoes and lingonberry jam (if you want that Ikea experience), but feel free to serve them with rice or noodles. If you like spiced meatballs, add a dash of allspice to the meat mixture.
Bon appétit or, smaklig måltid, as they say in Sweden!
